The Powers Vested in Us
SIU Police officers possess the same powers as any other police officer in the State of Illinois in counties where the University has property or concerns and if there is violations of state law, city or county ordinances, or University rules and regulations. Officers work in cooperation with the Carbondale Police Department, the Jackson and Williamson County Sheriff's Offices, and other local law enforcement and emergency responder agencies.
This legal authority is derived from the U.S. Constitution, Illinois Constitution, and U.S. and Illinois law, including but not limited to:
