Telegram from J. Edgar Hoover to SIU Chief Leffler
The FBI completed their forensic analysis on or about May 22, 1968. Director Hoover sent a telegram to Chief Leffler at SIU summarizing the findings, with the full report to follow. In short, tests of the dust and debris collected around the blast sight and from the base of the elevator shaft were negative. Analysis of the surviving parts of the bomb, however, were (and remain) quite interesting. We will not be releasing the complete lab report given the sensitive nature of the contents.
