Currently Accepting Applications*

The SIU Department of Public Safety is accepting applications for the Saluki Patrol student worker program. Students must be currently enrolled at SIU; possess a valid driver's license; be at least 18 years of age; no record of criminal conviction; must have and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.25; and must have completed a minimum of one semester of college courses. Please submit applications in person to the department (Trueblood Hall, lower level), by email to, or mail to DPS, 1175 S. Washington, Mail Code 6713, Carbondale, IL 62901.

*Applications will be used to establish a pool of eligible candidates.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled as a student at SIU Carbondale
  • Possess a valid driver's license
  • No record of criminal conviction (excluding minor traffic offenses)
  • Must meet all requirements for employment, as set forth by the Financial Aid Office at SIU
  • Must have completed one semester at SIU. Exceptions: transfer students, graduate or married students
  • Must have and maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.25
  • Entry employees are subject to a probationary period of two semesters
  • Entry employees must successfully complete the Saluki Patrol Field Training Program
  • Must complete and sign an application for employment and background investigation release
  • Minimum age of 18 years

Applicants that meet all of the requirements on the left will be considered for employment. The application process consists of:

  • Oral Interview
  • Background Investigation
